The Albany Council of the Traditional Karate-Do Organization, Inc. (AC-TKO) is a 501(c) 3 tax exempt not for profit organization. Under the leadership of Shihan (Master) Tony Butler and the Organizations CEO Joseph A. Sorce, what began as a single after school martial arts enrichment program has grown into a community-wide network of students, athletes, parents, teachers and volunteers committed to youth development. Through martial arts instruction, AC-TKO instills the following principles in its students:
The success and growth of AC-TKO now provides nearly 350 youth in the Capital Region with a multicultural, economically diverse setting to learn discipline, self esteem, confidence, and respect (along with world class karate instruction!). AC-TKO is also differentiated from other karate programs in its connection with school districts around the area as an after school karate enrichment program at the elementary school level. AC-TKO is affiliated with the Amateur Athletic Union as a Level II club.
The Amateur Athletic Union is one of the largest non-profit volunteer sports organizations in the United States with a membership of over one half million participants. The AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs for youth and adults.
The Amateur Athletic Union Karate program is the biggest traditional karate program in the nation with more than 15,000 members nationwide. ACT-TKO is one of the top 10 AAU Karate schools in the Nation, and includes students recognized as National and World Champions.
